Baclifin Pump

Noah is going in to the hospital on Monday (a week from today) to get a trial for a baclafin pump. It is something we are TOTALLY not sure on. The in the test, they will administer baclafin into Noah's spinal chord (through a spinal tap) He will be totally awake (they will give him some cream to help numb it, but it still makes me sick) The purpose of this is to see if this medication helps minimize Noah's spacticity. (because Noahs legs are so tight) See if it helps him move better, and loosens up his little muscles. If it does, then we would be good candidates to get a baclifin pump. It is a scary thing for us. It is a pump inserted under the skin on the stomach, then it has a catheter, that deposits medication right into the spine. They program the device to how much Noah needs, and they refill it by using a needle and poking through the stomach into the pump. Jeff and I feel like this may be a little overkill. We feel like Noah might not be severe enough to need this, but getting information is what the trial is for.

Noah had an apt about 2 weeks ago, with a spacticity team, and they thought that this was the next step we should try just to see how Noah responds, and if it would be beneficial to him. We could definitely use your prayers during the procedure.
I will let ya'll know how he does. Thanks
